Event Details
The sport of dressage requires a unique type of concentration between a rider and horse. It is
often seen as the basis for all other equestrian sports due to the high level
of training and concentration for both horse and rider needed to undertake the
sport.
It attracts
riders of all ages and abilities and some of the oldest Olympic competitors
have been dressage riders including Australian rider Mary Hanna who competed in
her 6th Olympic at age 66.
Recreational
riders over the age of 50 make up a significant proportion of the membership of
many equestrian clubs as well as riders who enjoy riding without being in an
organised club. They will probably never
make it to the Olympics or the higher level competition but they form the grass
roots membership and engagement of the sport. They are a large and often
uncelebrated sector of the equestrian world
and Gidgegannup Dressage Club (GDC) wants to highlight and acknowledge the contribution of these
dedicated riders over 50 and their equally dedicated horses.
In what is
believed to be a first for equestrian sports in WA, GDC will hold an unofficial dressage event on
September 29 2024 which will feature events for older riders :
Golden Oldies Dressage Festival
Featuring
Preparatory to Medium level dressage
tests for recreational community riders and Equestrian WA unofficial and
participant riders in various age categories (not riding a currently carded
horse) including
Riders aged 50
to 59
Riders aged 60
to 69 and
Riders aged over
70.
Tests offered : Prep
to Medium 1 and 2.
This will be a
highly anticipated and novel event for riders across the metropolitan area and
further afield, incorporating fun, low level competition and recognition.
You do not need
to be part of any club to enter.
We will have
great sponsorship and prizes that will focus
on rider and horse health and wellbeing
