13.3hh, rising 10 (19/10/14), Reg Arab riding pony and EA, mare.
We purchased skittles are a project/second mount for my 9 yr old daughter. Over that time she has come in leaps and bounds and become a safe and reliable pony.
She has done many miles around the farm and proven to be to honest in the open space. She is not spooky and happily trots along on a loose rein.
We have taken her to multi show jumping weekends from small closed events to large offical weekends. She is not spooky at fill (the good is for my daughters confidence not the pony) or the atmosphere, if her rider is confident. Stands tied to the truck all day, can become restless if left in her own but we have found this behaviour to be improving in the time we have had her.
She can require some “working down” both at home and at comp and my daughter is capable of doing this on her own, we simply turn a circle into a square and after as few minutes her energy level comes down and her mind is ready to go.
With her jumping she requires a confident rider who will ride her into the fence, she has a huge jump and I feel she is quite capable of taking the right rider up to some decent pony heights. Unfortunately this is where we come unstuck with my daughter her, her jump is big and this worries my daughter, so she takes away her forward and bottles her up causing her to become to deep into a fence and Skittles then having to leap of over. This then unseats my daughter and we have become stuck in a confidence destroying circle.
I also feel Skittles will benefit from having a more one on one with her rider. She is at her best when ridden regularly, as she is my daughter’s second mount and she is completely devoted to her other pony (he’s pretty special) Skittles is not the main focus and I feel she needs to be.
She has a beautiful soft mouth, ridden in a myler loose ring snaffle, she is light to leg, seat and voice aids. She needs a rider with an independent seat, who does not need their hands to balance.
Can give you the run around to catch but only for a few min, good to float, feet, brush, saddle, reg ect ect
Just had her teeth done, up to date with feet.
Skittles have weaved her little orange face into our hearts and she will only go to a home where I feel she will excel, she is not a beginners/first ridden pony nor is she suitable for a child coming off a ridden pony. She is an athlete and so willing to give you her all under the right guidance.
