Missy is a beautiful leggy mare with a heart of gold and sweet personality.
Missy come to me in October 2023 where I gave her a good let down from racing. She began her retraining in Dec/Jan (mainly lunging) but unfortunately went back on spell due to me injuring myself and needing surgery. So again, she come back into work in May and has been in consistent work since. She has been good to bring in and out of work, no nasties. No buck , bolt or rear. Even when I’m put a little pressure in her training. She try’s hard to please. Missy has beautiful movement under her on the flat, I believe she’d make a nice show hack or dressage mount. 3 even paces where she is becoming more free and balanced every ride.
She did have an unusually high head carriage when I first started riding her and was tight in the back because of this. Slowly working with her to get her working over the back more has helped a lot (along with body work), she is a lot more free with swinging movement now, gaining more strength.
She has been out on many bush rides both alone and with other horses. Missy is not your loose rein, on the buckle hack pony. She does “jig jog” when you first get out there, but she does settle. She’s not spooky or silly. She has been around cars, motorbike, dogs, kids. Also seen plenty of kangaroo’s on bush rides, and had truck and buses pass her on slow estate roads.
Jumping. I have just started basic jump training with Missy again. As mentioned above, she had a very high head carriage when I started jumping (very small cross rails). She would get stressed, revert back to the high head and drop all contact. I have worked to gain a partnership with Missy so she doesn’t get nervous when approaching a fence. We do a lot of trot poles and raise pole to build up muscle and strength. I do believe she’ll make a talented jumping horse for the future, with someone who is willing to take the time with her.
Missy is great for the farrier, good to tack up, wash and float (both angle and straight load). Great to tie up at home and on the side of the float. She has had a full body clip (no sedation). Up to date with teeth and worming also. A good doer and eats the house down. She has been paddocked alone and with others. She is queen bee of the paddock, but she’s not nasty. She will share her hay but not her hard feed. Missy is an absolute pleasure to do anything on the ground, very easy going horse. However she is a very forward horse and due to this, she will only be sold to an experienced rider and/or knowledgeable home.
