Thyra (Tea-ra)

16hh OTTB “Unnamed” – Unraced and Untrialed

I have had this beautiful girl a little over a year now, I bought her on as a green 3yo having next to no education or experience whilst my two WB’s were still growing up – said WB’s are now grown and broken in and having recently opened the doors to my own business it’s become extremely unrealistic to have 3 horses. Unfortunately with my WB’s being extremely sentimental to me, Thyra has drawn the short straw. In the year I’ve owned Thyra, she truly has come such a long way – she has such a trainable brain and constantly tries her best for you! 

HISTORY

When I got T she was timid and skittish to be rugged and saddled, she would not stand at the mounting block, and when she didn’t know what you we’re asking she just ran forward, out of fear and uncertainty. She is a completely different horse now – you can rug her without a halter on, with or without food, in the stable or paddock, she stands beautifully at the mounting block and overall she is so much easier to communicate with under saddle while constantly trying to figure out what your asking when she’s unsure, she really thrives off having a job to do!

OUTINGS

Due to working 2 jobs alongside my very own business, I haven’t had a great deal of free time over the year to take Thyra out. She has recently attended Gidge Training Day where she was absolutely exceptional for her very first Dressage Test, having some tense moments but still scoring well. She has also been taken for trail rides in the Gnangara Pines, Mundaring Heritage Trail, Navel base Beach, the Indoor at SEC, the XC course at SEC and a few of my friends private arenas – She is brilliant to ride with or without friends nearby. 

She is also perfect to ride all seasons of the year, I’ve left her for 2 months, pulled her out the paddock and rode her again with no problems, no rushing, no spiciness, just genuine enjoyment to be ridden again!

VICES

Thyra has never reared, bucked, bolted, kicked or anything of that sort. She truly has the sweetest nature and not a bad bone in her body, her only “vice” is she windsucks during meal times, that’s it! She is up to date with her Teeth, Feet, Worming and has had no prior injuries, ulcers or issues!

Thus having no vices I will be completely honest and say she is a very sensitive mare. She is not suited to a beginner, she’s not a horse that you can be rough with, she lacks a lot of confidence especially starting off with a new rider however once she grows to trust you she truly does give you her all.

FEED

T is a really easy doer for a TB (much easier than my WB’s) Twice a day she gets Oaten Hay, Wheaten and Lucerne Chaff, Pegasus Coolmax pellets and some basic supplements.

Obviously being a 4yo Thyra is still very green, she still has a long way to come and needs a lot further education and exposure – She is not suited for a beginner rider, she needs someone she can trust, who can give her confidence. She has so much potential just waiting to be unlocked, I am absolutely gutted I lack the time and resources to further her education.
