River
Sad sale of a really cool little mare.
11yr 14.3hh
River is an unreg Stockhorse mare and is by an Omega bred stallion that Stewart Dennis owned
Out of a Heritage Stockhorse mare called “Many Ways”. River was bred by John Roche and carries his brand.
River’s dam won quite a few campdrafts in the Eastern States and was a mare that could really gallop , watch a cow and win a led class.
River is a real true to type workhorse. She’s spent time on a feedlot prior to us and done a lot of rides here at home on farm. River is extensively ridden by my 13yr old son, she is quiet on the ground and to handle in every aspect, easy to take away to shows; not mareish and isn’t clingy, happy to be alone or in company.
River has the potential to produce exceptionally lovely work on the flat and has big expressive movement in comparison to her size. If being educated solely as a dressage horse she would potentially do incredibly well under someone who can. She has the potentially to really excel in the dressage ring and once she relaxes down she is lovely.
On the other foot, if you are a forward, go getter she will come up and carry her head high and is forward.
She has been used solely for barrel racing with my son and travelled around the state with us, she is the easiest horse we have to take away. Her first rodeo was Claremont - right in the city, she was unfazed. Busy environments do not bother her.
She has run a couple of 4th places and a 5th in my sons age division with next to no training. She would require a competent small adult or teen to really keep her going as a barrel horse as she’s still unbalanced. We run her in a tie down. Not stupid or hot to walk into the arena and happily stands quietly until it’s her turn. Has sharp roll backs and can really spin but does get busy between the pattern.
No dirt in this mare, she’s true to type and honest in every aspect. I enjoy riding her around the farm. Can pony off her or pony her off another horse. Runs in a herd and isn’t top of the pecking order. Worst she’s got is a mare stare and pigroot to try you on when you initially ride her/when she’s fresh. Has never tried to put a rider on the floor.
RIVER IS A V8! if you’re a rider who chases their mount and not suited to anyone who is a beginner nor is she suited to pony club. Would make for a ripper polo pony and is the type that’ll go out tomorrow and give it a go, would also make a good station hack or potential drafter and wouldn’t be afraid to push through when needed.
Has attended an Sj day where she placed 1st and 2nd in both her rounds and only saw her first jump two days prior. Did get boundy and keen between jumps. Won’t be sold to a jumping home unless you’re ballsy!
This is the type of horse that’ll teach you to be a rider not a sitter. She is forward and can be choppy to ride when you get her cantering if you allow, we ride her in a tie down at Rodeos or a martingale.
This horse has been thrown in the deep end with us and just takes it all in her stride.
Not for nervous riders, beginners or anyone after a pony clubber.
Negotiable to the best home.
