Ralph – A nice compact type thoroughbred with a heart of gold!!
Ralph is a 16hh 9yo thoroughbred gelding by “My Admiration”. He is a very well-mannered and kind natured horse who is looking for his forever home.
Ralph retired from racing in April 2024 where I was fortunate enough to have been offered him from a great owner/trainer who adored him so much she began his retraining shortly after he retired. But with her main focus being her racehorses, she just didn't have enough time to bring Ralph on the way she had hoped.... But this is great for us, knowing he has had a good let down, and knowable training put into him from the beginning.
Ralphy had a spell roughly from early May to August, he then come into work at the end of August. Naturally a well-balanced horse who sits on hid hind quarters well. A nice trot to ride, very even. His canter comes in waves, when he is in consistent work, its smooths and easy to ride. When he had had a bit of time off, although the canter is still nice to ride, he does have a little trouble picking up the left canter lead. Ralph then had a short spell around November/December due to myself going on a holiday.
Returning back into full work after that.
Ralph attended an OTT clinic back in October, this being his first outing since coming off the track. He was very nervous that day and didn’t really settle, however he did hold it together for his 2 lessons.
He then attended a showjump training day this month (February) where he was a completely different horse!! Was calm, relaxed and level headed. We jumped 3 lovely rounds, where he was relaxed and in a rhythm (even when the arena sprinkler come on in our round and he didn’t even bad an eyelid and just continued on haha!). He stood around and waited for his next class, no fuss. Stood tied up to the float for the afternoon nicely.
Ralph has been on trials rides both alone and with other horses. 90% of the time being on a loose rein. Aswell as going to the beach this summer where he ending up swimming - semi rough conditions.
He was ridden bareback that day also.
He is very easy to handle, my mum can lead him into the stable by just his flyveil from the paddock. Very easy to float. Good in a paddock on his own or with others, but I have found he loves having a friend. He is not the boss but nor the bottom of the pack either.
Up to date with farrier (good for the farrier), worming and recently had his teeth attended to.
Ralph would suit a true one on one bond with someone rather than just being another number to a large team.
He will only be sold to an experienced home who has had experience with OTT horses before, will not sold to a beginner rider or a first time OTT owner. Ralph has been know to rear in the past, however he has come a long way and does not show any signs of rearing now nor for the past few months. He does get nervous when in a new situation and gains his confidence off his handler/ rider.
Please only message me if genuinely interested and believe you can provide Ralphy a great home and a forever friend that he deserves.
